Staff and Governors' News

Mrs Macgougan has put in a request to reduce her teaching commitment from September 2008 to three days per week. The Resources Committee has accepted her request on condition that a suitable replacement is appointed. We will obviously keep you informed about the situation.

Mrs Mortlock, one of our Parent Governors, will now be known as Ms Marshall.

St George's Day

The children arrived in School last Wednesday dressed as English writers, poets and sportspeople. Lots of effort went into the costumes and research into their characters. During the afternoon parents joined the children and Staff for Afternoon Tea. Thank you to Mrs Cleaver, Ms Marshall and Class 3 who spent considerable time before 2.15pm helping to get everything ready. Thank you to the parents and Staff who helped with the teas and clearing away. We would also like to thank everyone who helped make the day a success.

We will also be celebrating May Day next Thursday as it is important to share our British traditions, culture and history with the children.

Junk Band
Miss Dawkins very kindly led the Junk Band in their second public appearance when they played at the Sound of Musical Magic at Coronation Hall at the beginning of the holiday. There has been a lot of praise about the talented children and their conductor. They will be sharing their skills with two schools from Cornwall later this term. Thank you to Miss Dawkins for giving up her time so generously.  Back to top
Lower Playground

We have now received letters of apology from the two children who vandalised the Lower Playground. They have reassured us that they will not do anything like this again and realise how wrong they were.

Fifth Disease

We have had a few cases of Fifth Disease, commonly referred to as 'Slapped Face'. This is a viral disease spread by respiratory droplets initially appearing as flu-like illness and then the bright red rash on the cheeks appears followed by a reddish rash on the body. This rash may last up to three weeks.

A few sufferers may experience mild joint pain. It is regarded as a mild illness and by the time the red cheeks appear most patients are no longer infectious and excluding children serves no useful purpose. The illness is common in the primary age range.
